Utah Wins 2014 Westercon

July 7, 2012

Utah in 2014 received a majority of the votes cast in the first round of site selection balloting and therefore is elected to host Westercon 67.

The results in detail follow. Only one ballot was cast on Thursday, so the results for the first two days were combined in the totals.

Site July 5-6 July 7 Total
Utah in 2014 39 20 59
Tonopah 4 0 4
Maui 3 0 3

The polls closed at 5 PM Saturday. Ballot-counting was complete and the results declared official at 5:28 PM. Because site selection balloting produced a definitive result, there will not be a Site Selection Business Meeting on Sunday at Westercon 65 in Seattle.

The 2014 Westercon will be Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Marriott Downtown at City Creek, Salt Lake City, Utah. Their Guests of Honor will be Cory Doctorow, the Writing Excuses team (Mary Robinette Kowal, Brandon Sanderson, Howard Tayler, and Dan Wells), and Christopher J. Garcia. Memberships will initially be $50 attending and $25 supporting. If you voted and pre-supported, you are automatically an attending member. If you voted but did not pre-support, you can convert to attending for $25. Pre-supporters who did not vote can convert to attending for $30. The convention’s website is www.utahwestercon.org.

GREAT for 2015 bid: At LosCon last weekend, Ron Oakes submitted the required paper work to be an official bid on the Site Selection ballot to be held at Westercon 66. The filing was reviewed and found to be correct and complete.

San Diego SMOFs were at Chicon 7. Val was not at bid table but I am supporting them full speed. Vote Site Selection at Westercon 66.
