No Bids Filed for 2025 Westercon

No groups filed bids to host Westercon 77, the 2025 West Coast Science Fantasy Conference, as of the April 15, 2023 deadline for doing so. Westercon 75 in Anaheim will conduct a site selection election; however, there will be no bids listed on the ballot, only spaces for write-in bids. The final deadline for filing a bid is the close of site selection voting on July 1, 2023. Write-in bids are subject to all of the restrictions of the Westercon Bylaws. As specified in Section 3.1 of the Bylaws, any site in North America west of 104° west longitude, or in Hawaii, is eligible.

Should no eligible bid file before the deadline, or should no eligible bid receive sufficient votes to be selected, the question of who shall host Westercon 77 will be decided by the Westercon 75 Business Meeting on July 2, 2023. The Business Meeting can select a committee in such a case by a two-thirds vote, and any committee it selects is not subject to any of the restrictions of the Westercon Bylaws other than the geographic restriction in Section 3.1. Should the Business Meeting not reach a decision (whether it explicitly declares so or adjourns without selecting a site), a decision regarding Westercon 77 devolves to the board of directors of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, Inc., owner of the Westercon service mark, as specified in Section 3.16.

To file a bid to host Westercon 77, or to ask any other questions about Site Selection, contact Linda Deneroff, the 2025 Westercon Site Selection Administrator, at siteselection@westercon75.org.

Kevin is an expert on the official rules of Westercon. He led the committee that redrafted the Westercon Bylaws in the 1990s and is effectively the primary author of the current Westercon Bylaws. Disclaimer: Kevin is Chair of Westercon 74 (Tonopah 2022).
