Anyone who has ever toured the Ackermansion, Forry Ackerman's home in Los Angeles, is familiar with perhaps the best known fan in fandom. This member of Science Fiction's First Fandom has a collection of memorabilia, particularly in the realm of horror, that is unmatched. But he is much more than that: the editor of The Time Traveler, the first fanzine; a Hugo winner as Number One Fan Personality in 1953; editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland, the Perry Rhodan series, and other genre magazines; agent for A.E. Van Vogt and other writers; Fan Guest of Honor at both the 1964 Westercon and Worldcon; and, most famously (or infamously) the coiner of the term Sci Fi. But most of all, he is a joy to be around. Those of us who know him know that those of you who have not met him before are in for a real treat. We are honored to have him as a Special Guest for the 50th Anniversary Westercon. |
