Chester, Deborah

Deborah Chester was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in norhteastern Arkansas.  She holds a B.A. with Genreal Honors and M.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma, and has been writing professionally since 1978.  She is the internationally published author of 29 novels and has written Regency romances, historical romances, young adult, science fiction, and fantsy.

In 1978 she received the Dwight V. Swain award for outstanding graduating senior in professional writing at the University of Oklahoma. In 1981 her young adult novel, The Sign of the Owl, was named to the Best Books for Young Adults list by the American Library Association. In 1985 she was named Oklahoma Writer of the Year at the Univeristy of Oklahoma Short Course on Professional Writing.  In 1994, she was inducted into the Oklahoma Professional Writers' Hall of Fame.

Under the pseudonym Sean Dalton, she wrote two science fiction series for Berkley-Ace; The _Operation Starhawk series and the TIme Trap series, plus a tie-in novel for the Earth 2 television series produced by Steven Spielberg.

Under the Deborah Chester name, she has written a fantasy trilogy for Ace: Reign of Shadows, Shadow War, and Realm of Light.  At present she is under contract with LucasFilms Publishing to write a science fiction trilogy called The Alien Chronicles.  The first book in that series is The Golden One, currently in print. The Crimson Claw is scheduled for publication in October 1998.  The Crystal Eye will be published in Spring 1999.  She is also under contract for another fantasy trilogy, the first book of which will be published in 1999.

Chester lives in Norman, Oklahoma, and is an associate professor of journalism at the University of Oklahoma, where she teaches professional writing (how to write commercial short stories and novels).
