Loscon's Daily Newsletter
Rev. 07-Jul-1998
The Pan-Galactic Inquirer morning edition will be on the stands in
the morning before daytime programming begins, and the evening edition
will be on the stands before evening programming begins. There may be
one or two "extra" issues as well.
When we say "on the stands" we refer to five or so freestanding "newszine
boards" which are positioned throughout the convention. There will be one
near or in front of the con suite, the art show, the dealers room,
Information, Registration, and so on.
On each rack is a space for each issue of the newszine, so if you miss
issue #2 you can go back and get it. If you see an empty space on one
board, check the contents of one of the others or try back later - we'll
be reprinting back issues if they run out. So you should be able to
collect a complete set.
If you miss any issues, send a self-addressed envelope with two stamps to
Pan-Galactic Inquirer c/o Chaz Boston Baden, PO Box 17522, Anaheim CA
92817-7522.
We intend to print a "wrap-up" issue, either Sunday night or after the
convention. If you would like one of these mailed to you, just get us
your name and address.
This year the "Pan-Galactic Publishing" crew is running their most
ambitious newsletter operation yet. We hope you enjoy the results.
You can spot the Newszine crew by their distinctive green-and-white "Alien
Camouflage" sashes and hair ties, and also many of them will be wearing
Pan-Galactic Inquirer badges. You should usually be able to stop
any of us to give us news items, if you've already written them down.
(See also Ambassadors, below.)
Newszine Outpost
K.V. Moffet, Lynn V. Boston, and Nola Frame-Gray will be running the "Newszine Outpost,"
which consists of a table in the Fan Tables area outside the Dealers
Room, with a computer and printer. If you'd like to contribute some news
or other material to the newsletter, you can stop by just about any time
and dictate it, get help putting it into legible form, or just sit down
and tappity-tap on the keyboard yourself. When you're finished, we'll
save it to a file and print it out. (If you come back later with another
article, it's a good idea to make sure it gets a new filename to make
sure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.)
Newszine Ambassadors
Tristan Anderson, Kandis Holliday, and Selina Phanara will be our roving
liaisons to the rest of the convention. The Newszine Ambassadors will
have specially-marked Pan-Galactic Inquirer badges with a red stripe on
the bottom. They are the newszine's representatives, and will be happy to
take down news items if you come across them in the halls. Also, some
departments tend to be understaffed and their respective department heads
can't necessarily make it out to the nearest newszine board, let alone
stop and write things down, so instead we'll come to them.
Distribution

Stephanie Mortimer and Harry Meyer will be handing the "Paper Route,"
i.e. they'll be keeping the newsletter boards stocked with newszines. You
might catch one of them walking the halls shouting "Newszines! Hot off
the presses!" while the other leapfrogs ahead and fills the newsboard. Or
maybe they'll just materialize out of thin air and just as mysteriously
vanish again. Keep your eyes open to find out.
Day Team
Colleen Crosby will be heading up the "Day Team," which will be producing
the evening newsletter editions. Colleen is assisted by
Kim Bergdahl, Jennifer Weaver, and Shawnna Fox.
Night Shift
Chaz Boston Baden, leader of this whole
department, will head up the
"Night Shift," working into the wee hours of the night getting the morning
edition ready. The team includes Pat Lawrence, and the various other night
owls who tend to drift in (including the rest of the team after they've
finished party-hopping).
Special Features
Kat Hedges will be editing the Extra "Special Feature" editions of the
newszine, which may come out between the morning and evening editions, or
possibly the other way around. Patricia Flood is assisting. These issues
will focus on convention coverage, and will be printing panel reports and
similar in-depth (or at least medium-depth) material.
Et Cetera
Shawn Crosby is our resident artist, doing sketches and toons and
drawings and so forth on demand.
Andrew Rich is our Tech
Support person, working in a support position when
needed by any of the teams listed above. Gofer, coffee-getter,
music-cd-changer, print-cartridge-changer, general computer guru, etc.
Hare Hobbs ("The Hare of Grahillia") is one of our loyal field
reporters. He'll be spending most of his time on the floor, looking for
stories.
